Among the six diseases considered by the World Health Organization to have the greatest impact on human health, five are parasitic and all five are vector borne. Despite great advances in knowledge of these diseases, control remains elusive. Large numbers of other parasitic agents threaten human and companion animal health as well. Parasitic agents are generally considered to be protists, worms, and arthropods. These organisms are of great importance to human and animal health. This book provides basic information on the biologies of these kinds of agents, but emphasizes how control programs can be structured in a sociological, political, and economic milieu.
Unique to Parasitology and Vector Biology is an emphasis on the control of parasitic and vector borne diseases that impinge on human welfare. This text is not encyclopedic; key examples are taken from a variety of hosts including mankind, companion animals, food animals, and certain species of wildlife. This book places parasitology in a "real world context" in modern college courses, following the new emphasis in colleges today.

About the Author
William C. Marquardt is Emeritus Professor of Zoology at Colorado State University, Fort Collins, where he has been affiliated since 1966. Professor Marquardt received his Ph.d. from the University of Illinois, Urbana in 1954. He was a member of the Center of Zoonoses Research at the Unversity of Illinois from 1962-66 and Associate Director of the Arthropod-Borne and Infectious Diseases Laboratory at Colorado State University from 1987 to 1995. His publications include approximately 75 refereed papers in periodicals, four books, as well as book reviews and chapters.

Richard S. Demaree received his Ph.D. from Colorado State University in 1969. Since 1972, he has been Professor of Zoology as well as Coordinator of the Electron Microscopy Programs at California State University, Chico. His publications include two books and approximately 40 refereed papers in academic journals.

Robert Grieve received his Ph.D. from the University of Florida in 1978. From 1987-96 he was Professor of Parasitology at the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, Colorado State University, Fort Collins. Since 1993, he has been Director of Research at Heska Corporation, Fort Collins, Colorado. His publications include one book, several book chapters, and approximately 80 refereed papers in academic journals.

Just another Encore Publishing gyp of a book.

This broccoli has been warmed over again. And it's just as bad as it ever was. Plus it was published as a Kindle eBook as well as a paperback. The book absolutely ruins the healthy aspects of broccoli by the addition of questionably poor choices of other ingredients in the 30 recipes copied off the Internet.

This is nothing but a reworked copy of the fake "doctor doue, md" dreamed up by Encore Publishing to sound legit. The fake doctor book was published 1-31-2013. All the recipes are derivative copies of recipes off copyright protected Internet sites and not written by anyone at Encore Publishing beyond cutting, pasting and scrambling the same ingredients, quantities, punctuation and screwing up the directions to make it seem original when they aren't.

These recipes are now offered published 11-24-2014 but it is a copy of the exact same Internet rip-off recipes with a new "fake author" name of "Johanna Davidson" with all the processed high sodium ingredients copied out of the fake doctor book. All these copied recipes of a previous book filled with derivative copies of recipes off copyright protected Internet sites and not written by anyone at Encore Publishing beyond cutting, pasting and scrambling the same ingredients, quantities, punctuation and screwing up the directions to make it seem original when they aren't.

I can hardly wait for fake copies 3, 4 and 5!

If you like recipes using frozen chopped broccoli, cheese 'food', and canned condensed soups this book is for you. If not, continue searching. There was even a recipe for a broccoli cheese frittata using canned condensed cream of broccoli soup as the only broccoli in the recipe.

Using frozen chopped broccoli isn't too bad, but combined with condensed soup and and cheese 'food' it's just gross.

Love her books!!!

She was the cause of his childhood nightmares, he was the star of her childhood dreams...
Tam had her heart broken, twice, recently, and wasn't about to let it happen for the third time. When Grant, her childhood crush, seems less than happy to see her again, she just wants to stay away from him.
Grant realized as soon as his knee jerk reaction happened, that he was being rude. But Tam wasn't about to hear his explanations or apologies, no matter how sincere.
There several elements in the story, that are so easy to relate to, that has happened to most of us in one form or another. I truly enjoyed the tale, it made me sigh, and laugh, and smile and tear up. Emotional connection to the characters was as easy as to like them.
Tam and Grant together were smoking hot, the chemistry between them was amazing, and Grant finding his alpha side, was at times hilarious.
The friends, like always at Gully's Fall, are loyal, the banter brilliant, entertaining, and source of many laughs. I surely am going to miss them, this being the last book in the series.
Between the smoking hot romance, the life of the circle of friends, the amusing events and people of the small town, and barrel of pets, the story has a message, that is hard to ignore. It encourages everyone to live fully, not to settle down for less, not letting people take advantage of you, and what it really is like, when a person truly loves another, accepts another, just the way they are. The story has a monologue, that Grant delivers at the town fair, that made me want to stand up, and salute him. So often people are only looking at the outside appearance, and judging others by their looks, not bothering to see the true person, or accept the fact that no one is perfect. I have always loved Angela Verdenius' BBW books, the stories are well written, fun, entertaining, and touching, carrying a message of accepting people as they are, this story given me a great reminder of the fact, that not all romance is written about those 'perfect people', but real, positive stories are written about characters little closer to home to many of us, that are solid, sincere, and relatable, and as raw and real as life to many of us is. Please, Ms Verdenius, keep them stories coming!

Very good read

Good read. I was worried at first Grant was going to be a bit of a push over from the beginning. I couldn't get why he would be so upset over Tam dropping her smile after he realized who she was. His reaction was natural of a bad memory during an embarrassing time in his life. I felt like if anyone should apologize it should have been her for the childhood trama. I thought he spent too much time chasing her down just to that but after it was done the book got much better. The local vet proved to be quiet the alpha male. And Tam proved to be more likeable than Dee. I don't really like how the girls sometime peer pressure people into doing things. They can be kind of overwhelming and mean together. The guys for some reason are always great. Never any drama between them. The stealth thief was fantastic. Loved it! Love man cave time. It's always a hoot. I hate that we're leaving gully's fall. But I look forward to reading about new characters and extremely alpha and yummy men. Thank you Angela

LOVED IT!

Alas, our final visit to Gully's Fall but it was a great one (as all of our visits were). Grant is the local vet with a menagerie of animals at home. Tam is a childhood school mate who has returned to Gully's Fall. Tam brings a dog to Grant's practice and the story begins its way to a HEA. Some of the memorable sections along the way - the "street" scene and the "librarian" scene. Whoo! That librarian scene is right up there with the "body search" scene from The Virgin Sex Queen (Alan and Sophie's story). The Stealth Thief is a mystery woven throughout the book - who could possibly be stealing all those items? Don't worry...the culprit is revealed with much delight and dismay! Thanks, Angela, for another good read. Not sure where you're taking us next but I am sure we will all enjoy the journey.
