A beginner's guide, nothing more

I think that "odd" is probably the best way to describe this book. It's vague about things that it should be specific about, and it's too specific about things that don't matter. It omits some important information, like AES67, but it doesn't really say very much about Conbranet, Dante, Q-LAN, or AVB either. There's barely a paragraph on each. There's a ton of "soft skills" information, like project management and documentation, but not a lot of technical information. The sections on video networking left me with more questions than answers. If you're looking for THE definitive resource about all things AV networking, this isn't it. Not even close. It's good for an introductory level text, but you'll want to follow it up with some more serious technical resources. I'll also mention that there are a number of typos in the printed hardcover edition, some of which actually change the meaning of the sentence.

This book kept my interest and put networking together like a puzzle it is. I was surprised how deep it went so even if you think your advanced in IT it's a book for everyone involved in A/V....well done !

Fantastic book, a must-read for everyone concerned about their mental health

I highly recommend this book to everyone who has ever experienced anxiety and depression. The author goes into depth to explain the scientific background for each of the strategies, yet the book is very easy to read and has many easy-to-implement tips.

As a coach for graduate students, I believe this book is an essential read for students and their parents. Given how much time students spend on computers and mobile devices, they might develop symptoms of digital addiction without realizing it. While most students need computers to complete their work, this book includes simple strategies to reduce the symptoms of digital addiction which include depression, anxiety, and poor sleep.

I was very impressed by the section on depression, because it includes a plethora of natural and inexpensive remedies, that could complement traditional Western Medicine.

Overall, the book is very well-written. It is clear that the author planned it with the reader in mind, as all the sections complement each other, so it is a fantastic reference for mental health patients and their families.

Great info in mental health

Mental illness is a widespread problem than most people realize it to be. Let's face it. Either you recognized the symptoms in yourself or know someone afflicted with autism or depression or diabetes -- the by products of modern lifestyle. With an younger brother diagnosed with autism, I was curious to know about the underlying factors. More importantly, what can you do about it? This was something pondering me for a long time. I believe I now have an much better understanding - thanks to this book, which busts a number of myths about mental illness. I found this book quite comprehensive and 'readable' compared to similar books on the topic. I always knew there were health benefits in natural therapies like yoga and mediation, but know I know why.

Good mental hygiene improves your life

When I was young, many people rejected the importance of dental hygiene. They preferred to believe that they developed cavities because they had "soft teeth." That a woman would lose a tooth for every baby she gave birth to. That if their grandparents finished up toothless, they were doomed to the same fate. It was all bad luck and genetics and brushing, flossing, good diet, and not using tobacco would make no difference.

Today, most people understand the importance of good dental hygiene, but we're still in the Dark Ages when it comes to committing to good mental hygiene. Mental illness is scary and embarrassing and seems to strike like a bolt of thunder. In a laudable attempt to reduce the stigma of mental illness, experts stress that it may be hereditary or a result of chemical imbalances. Either way, it's out of our control, right?

This author is a medical librarian and himself a survivor of mental illness. On both scores, he understands the importance of being well-informed. He has read thousands of articles in medical journals most of them describing the findings of clinical research in the areas of depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and internet addictions. He introduces these papers and gives a brief summing up of their critical points, with special emphasis on findings which relate to self-help measures. AND he tells you the web sites where you can read the entire article yourself.

I approached this book with great misgivings. I grew up at a time when doctors were still struggling to convince the general public that they were offering something worth paying for. They did it by promoting the idea that health is only understandable by those who have gone to medical school and that traditional practices and wisdom were "old wives tales" - silly and probably dangerous. Many (most, really) books about "alternative medicine" are poorly researched and have a strong mercenary bias. "Massive doses of dandelion tea cured my cancer and I sell the only dandelion tea mix that works." You know the sort of thing.

This author isn't going to get rich selling his book and I don't believe that he wrote it with that intent. He does believe passionately that we can help ourselves to better mental health by practicing good mental hygiene - diet, exercise, prayer, and developing strong personal relationships. Modern medicine is beginning to adopt the same idea and these articles represent studies and tests from well-known and well-respected medical centers, universities, and organizations. This is not snake oil, but knowledge gleaned from scientific research.

So why doesn't everyone know about it? Because a pharmaceutical company can spend billions of dollars yearly telling the public about the benefits of its products, but there's no profit in telling you that turning your computer off and talking to a friend or taking a walk (or better yet, both at once!) will make you feel better.

When it comes to the workings of the mind, we are only beginning to explore a new frontier. In the future, our present "knowledge" will be laughable. But we can use the latest ideas and combine them with traditional wisdom to help ourselves. You are your own best doctor and (whether it's physical or mental illness) the best out-comes result when the patient and those who love him are well-informed and taking an active role in the process.

***** Mr. Jiang very kindly gave me a copy of his book, but that didn't influence my opinions one bit! I skimmed it and now I'm re-reading the sections that are of special interest to me. It's a book that should be in every household that has been affected by mental illness. That's all of us, right?

My gosh! This book is amazing, but is not for the faint of heart. If you are an occassional fixer uper who changes his/her own oil and maybe some spark plugs or brakes, this book is NOT for you. However, if you are delving into engine building and specs, this book is a great source book to keep on the shelf for referencing. It'll remind you of precise measurements and tools to use in particular circumstances while blueprinting an engine. The book also discusses what true blueprinting is vs. the generic "blueprinting" vocabulary that is loosely thrown out there by many mechanics.

It's a great teaching tool for those just starting engine blueprinting and an excellent resource for those professional blueprinters as well. Well worth the purchase. The book is all about precision, precision, precision of ALL engine parts! Great illustrations too!

Again, just as a reminder, this book is for those into building engines to precise measurements. This practice involves lots of financial resources and instruments. If you are not already into blueprinting or planning on it, then this book is not for you. The reading level of this informational text is very advanced, but is awesome if you understand the lingo in the art of blueprinting.

Another great book from Car Tech. Informative and entertaining, every part is analyzed for function and techniques used to optimize it for better performance. Even push rods need special attention, who'd a thunk it. Weather you are building a killer race engine or the ultimate street machine, this book is a must use referance. And if you are a gear head who wants to better understand what goes on behind the scenes, why do succesful engine builders get the big bucks and are held in such high esteem; this book is for you. I have always had a strong interest in Cars and Engines. Whereas I have rebuilt an engine or two, I have never Blueprinted one..... this book gives you the written tools to do so and I would feel very confident following the instructions and using the great illustrations to complete such a project. Mike Mavrigian has done a wonderful job and CarTech has once again given us a great book to add to our Auto Libraries. Anyone thinking about Engine Blueprinting should have this book.

I like this book.

I enjoy Thai curries, Japanese curries, Malaysian curries, and this book delivers. There are many recipes from all over the world, each country adapting curry to their own tastes. The recipes are tasty and easy to follow. The one drawback is I wish there were photos of each curry dish, so took off 1 star.

7/16/2012 After cooking several recipes out of this book (and reducing the amount of chilis, I do like this book very much. However it does NOT cover any Japanese style curries, which I love. They do have a lot of Singaporean, Malaysian, and Thai curries which I love also.

If You Are A Lover Of All Things Curry

This is the book for you. Once again Dave Dewitt has knocked it out of the park.
A lot of recipes from all areas of the world. They are usually short and easy to
prepare.
Some ingredients may be hard to find in smaller towns but easily available any
place that has " chinese type grocery markets ".
Great book with great recipes for any curry lover out there.

Must-read for MH370

I'm actually surprised that there are only 4 other reviews and that they're not all 4 or 5 stars, because I loved this book--totally worth buying it before it was available at the library. :)

This is almost presented as two parts of a single story--one is the story of MH370, and the other is how CNN and Quest handled it.In the first part, Quest rehashes the events of MH370 expertly, just as you'd expect from a journalist: he gives the facts only, in a clear, concise format. He includes a valuable "Who's Who" of investigators, governments, and passengers. The players and timeline, laid out in that manner, really shocks the reader at how bizarre this story really is. Loved it for that reason first.

Quest then moves on to detailing many of the subsequent issues, working through possible explanations for each--including the mishandling by the government, the lies and misinformation, the myriad of conspiracy theories, and a host of possible real explanations for what happened in 2014.

The second part (but interspersed throughout the entire book) is how CNN worked this story and Quest's involvement as an expert in aviation journalism. I get that he's not a pilot (a statement that he addresses early in the book), and some have taken issue with that fact. But I didn't take issue with it--especially since his aviation reporting had him flying with the copilot just weeks before MH370's disappearance.

Included in the CNN/journalist story was Quest's take on how CNN presented the events week after week. He also divulged some less-than-camera-worthy moments, like dealing with persnickety guests or inappropriate banter on live TV. I honestly hadn't expected the CNN portion at all, as I'd thought this was mostly going to be a book about the facts and consequences of MH370's disappearance, like other books. But aside from Quest's occasional whining (like when someone said he wasn't an aviation expert) and some unnecessary opinions here and there, the CNN info didn't detract (but rather enhanced) the book.

In all, I loved it for its concise layout of the facts and players with the explanation of theories and conspiracies (fraudulent passports, pilot/copilot potential involvement, battery packs, etc). He even offers a theory of his own, to take or leave. In all, this was a fabulous read!

I got this book because I'm a reader of the author's blog, My Man's Belly. Though I'm mostly a vegetarian, I was transfixed by the range and creativity of the recipes with their unusual flavor profiles and ingredients that clearly demonstrate Pamela is a world traveler. I would have never thought of these unique combinations myself (and my palate is no slouch), and it was quite the eye-opening education in jerky since my perception of it before was 7-Eleven road trip fare. If you're a carnivore, you will love this book! Even if you're not, it's a great read with some fruit and veg jerkies that anyone with a dehydrator or a little patience would want to make.

As one of Pamela's jerky taste testers, I can tell you that her recipes do work, and the results are delicious. My friends and I tasted almost every recipe that went into this book when she was writing it. That Whiskey Pete jerky? BEST ever. Trust us. We tested that several times as the result was, ahem, inconclusive...must try more samples. Seriously, though. That's one of our favorites and there were many more. Even the vegetable ones came out great too. Buy it for your friends and family this holiday season. You won't regret it!

Magnetizing Your Heart's Desire is a groundbreaking work that clearly lays out the mystical path of manifesting at our practical feet. Sharon Warren has given us all a gift in this book that brings together the essential pieces for understanding how we create our world. Sharon is a master at magnetizing her heart's desires. I have watched her "walk this talk" for
over 20 years. Now she gifts us with material that invites us all to join her. This book has the potential of changing your life. When I was at the "end of my rope," the techniques in these chapters guided me to transform my world! In only one month, I manifested the perfect job, healed a relationship and conceived a baby. Thank you, Sharon!

Walking the Walk

Having the great pleasure of having met the author by being "Magnetized" to her I can honestly say she lives what she writes. She brought her ideas in to my life and after having read her book I ordered more for Christmas gifts. She is so upbeat and looks at life through a beautiful lense of her choosing. It is infectious. If you want to bring some sun, some joy and some real appreciation for the value of a day in to your life read her book and put it to use. Don't be surprised to find yourself ordering more for gifts.

Lessons joyfully presented in this

In life I have found that I am responsible for me, through the blessings of our Creator. I searched most of my life to find a connection with Him/Her, to better understand our bond and the 'gifts' that we, as His/Her 'children', have been given that we do not know we have and, therefore, have not tapped into. In Ms. Warren's book, I have found some of those answers.

In this book, one will find the step-by-step process of 'Deliberate Creation'. It is given very specifically early on, and then throughout the book there are a variety of fun methods for one to choose from, to become `co-creators' with God. The magnets that accompany, are a unique way to help visualize the Law of Attraction. Ms. Warren has filled her book with many methods for one to 'attract', at least one of which will joyfully draw one to action.

I have used a couple of these tools and I am happy to report, my life has changed through them. Two years ago, my husband & I were living in a small apartment after a major financial crisis. As Ms. Warren explains, "the Chinese ideogram for CRISIS means DANGER on one hand and OPPORTUNITY on the other hand." We took this `opportunity' to refocus and through our `Creation Box' have just had our best financial year ever and have moved up to a beautiful new home with fabulous views of the city and mountains. Further, we have been able to make donations to causes dear to us.

I believe that with Ms. Warren's book, one has the option to begin to peel away the layers, to tap into the gifts that allow the Spirit to move through us to better enjoy the world that has been provided for us, and to make a difference to others while here.
